Glen Dessary Estate offers some of the most exciting deer stalking in Scotland with steep high ground and panoramic views of the West. The deer herd is carefully managed with highly selective culling, herd counting and a program of winter feeding to provide a steady number of mature stags during the season. It is not uncommon to get a stag at over 2500 feet and to climb through mist that suddenly lifts to reveal views of the islands of Rhum, Skye and the Outer Hebrides. Guests are accompanied by an experienced qualified stalker who will endeavour to ensure an enjoyable adventure with a successful outcome. The estate’s 15,000 acres can accommodate two separate stalking parties working in different areas. The estate stag season is from the 1st of September to the 20th of October.

We also offer hind stalking with up two parties a day. The estate hind season runs from the 21st of October to the 20th of December.

Stalking can either be booked with accommodation in the lodge; or the bothy or on its own.

The estate forest has a population of wild boar which are actively managed. For effective culling and to provide the best chance of a successful outing the estate has developed a hide shooting system with the use of timer feeding, well constructed hides properly located, outdoor motion detector cameras and thermal night vision equipment. As this is an evening activity, it is usually provided with hind stalking bookings rather than stag stalking, the latter usually being longer and more physically demanding.

Brown trout fishing is available in the two main estate rivers and also a number of lochs. Guided boat fly fishing is also available at a daily charge, on the extensive 10, 000 acre Loch Arkaig with the assistance of an local expert. All fishing equipment is provided; forward booking is advised to ensure availability.
